TALLAHASSEE, FL– November 9, 2018- The Innocence Project of Florida announces the installation of Brian Tannebaum as Chair of the Board of Directors. Tannebaum’s term began November 9, 2018, and runs for 2 years.
“Innocence should be everyone’s project, said Tannebaum. When innocent people are convicted and imprisoned, it affects society as a whole – that includes prosecutors, victims, judges, and everyone who expects our criminal justice system to convict the guilty and free the innocent. I look forward to continuing this essential mission as Chair and am honored to lead one of Florida’s most important organizations.”
Tannebaum has served on the Board of the Innocence Project of Florida since 2015 and is a former President of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is currently Special Counsel at Bast Amron, LLP in Miami, serving as General Counsel to the firm, and handling ethics and criminal defense cases throughout Florida. Tannebaum is a graduate of the University of South Florida and Stetson University College of Law.
“Brian has been an important voice for the innocent and has consistently ensured that our Project has had the support and resources to perform our vital work. My staff and I look forward to working more closely with Brian to increase our capacity, so we can return more innocent men and women to freedom from wrongful incarceration” said Seth Miller, Executive Director of the Innocence Project of Florida. The Innocence Project of Florida has assisted in the release from wrongful incarceration of 18 individuals since 2003.
Located in Tallahassee, the Innocence Project of Florida’s mission is to find and free the innocent in Florida prisons, help exonerees transition back into a changed society, and work to reform the criminal justice system. For more information, go to www.floridainnocence.org.
