One of our firm’s core values is commitment.
We are committed to our clients, our people, our families, and our community. We consider our community to be our extended home, and we regularly look for ways to improve it. The firm encourages pro bono services to indigent clients who cannot afford counsel. Our attorneys serve as mentors to young lawyers and law students. And, we regularly participate in community charity events and fundraisers.
We are also environmentally conscious. We maintain electronic records, avoiding paper when possible. When we do print, we use both sides of the paper. All of our paper waste is shredded (for security) and recycled. Our attorneys are even asked to turn off their lights and monitors when they are away from their desks.
We also participate in environmental programs outside of the office. Three of our attorneys recently took part in the Ocean Conservancy’s 33rd annual International Coastal Cleanup, the world’s largest single-day volunteer effort for our oceans and waterways. On a Saturday morning, Zak Laux, Peter Klock, and Jeff Bast, along with Jeff’s daughter Micah, kayaked out to Monument Island in Biscayne Bay to clean up the island. The project was more than just a clean-up though. It was part of a global citizen science project. As they were removing the debris, the group also cataloged and categorized what they collected as part of the Ocean Trash Index, which is updated annually by the Ocean Conservancy to provide a global snapshot of marine debris littering coasts and waterways around the world.
Together, they filled 4 large bags with debris and removed dozens of large pieces of wood, metal and even a large truck tire on the beach. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning while helping to make a small difference for our community and our beautiful coastal waterways.
