MIAMI, FL – May 29, 2024, Brett Amron and Jeffrey Bast, co-founders of Bast Amron, a leading Insolvency Litigation boutique law firm, are commemorating their 15-year journey as business owners and partners with reflections on personal and collaborative experiences that have shaped their careers as former “Big Law” Lawyers and the firm’s trajectory.
Reflecting on the firm’s inception in 2009 with four attorneys and three staff members, Amron and Bast highlight their growth to 14 lawyers and 25 team members. Bast Amron has claimed its stake in the Insolvency industry as a boutique firm with an impeccable reputation in business and legal circles, and the firm has established itself as a proven authority in its specialized area of law.
Their commitment extends beyond legal practice, with active involvement in charitable initiatives, including extensive pro bono work for Dade Legal Aid and Legal Services of Greater Miami, annual participation in Cycle For Survival, and 100% matching and employee participation in Give Miami Day.
The collaborative ethos of Bast Amron extends to initiatives like their annual Business Advantage Forum, promoting community, collaboration, diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. Going on its seventh year in early 2025, the educational Forum is hosted and underwritten by Bast Amron in an effort to give back, with all proceeds donated to a select community organization. To date, the Forum has raised over $100,000.
Amron and Bast also leverage platforms like The Practice Podcast, which they host, to share insights and foster effective leadership within the legal and business community. The partners record episodes of the show with guests, including leaders in the legal and business community, in their in-office recording studio. The podcast has over 140 recorded episodes and over 5000 downloads, ranking globally in the top ten percent of listened-to podcasts.
Brett and Jeff are also known for their adventurous spirits.
Brett is an avid runner; he has logged over 4,000 miles in the past four years. It’s what he loves to do. Brett runs whether he is happy or sad, rested or tired, relaxed or stressed, in the snow, sun, or rain, and whether it’s 20 degrees or 90 degrees. In 2023, he made a transformative journey to Nepal, where he disconnected from the office to trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. Despite being off-grid, Brett ensured seamless progress on cases through meticulous preparation and trust in his team. His passion for adventure, from completing a half-marathon in Iceland to trekking across Patagonia, reflects his dedication to both professional excellence and personal exploration.
Jeffrey is an open-water swimmer and staunch advocate for environmental conservation with a particular passion for the ocean and a commitment to preserving waterways. Jeffrey loves the ocean: the sound, the smell, the salt air. The only things that keep him out of the water are lightning and man of war. He swam competitively as a young child, but then, he says, besides a year of high school water polo—where he mostly warmed the bench—he didn’t swim again for nearly 40 years. That’s when he discovered open-water swimming, and now he cannot imagine a life without it. Jeffrey swims three days a week, usually before work, with fellow sea-lovers. They typically swim one to two miles, sometimes further. Last year, Jeff set a personal best of 5.5 miles. These sea-bound adventures bring the swimmers into close contact with various sea creatures, including a 10-foot hammerhead shark that came directly at Jeffrey, who put his hands up to steer it away. Just as Bast touched the shark’s rough skin at the last moment, it swam off. And Bast swam on.
Through his participation on the Board of Trustees of Miami Waterkeeper, Bast demonstrates a personal dedication to environmental stewardship, aligning with Bast Amron’s community engagement and responsibility values.
The firm’s organic growth underscores its resilience and commitment to providing an inclusive, collaborative workspace. Bast Amron’s emphasis on employee well-being, offering competitive benefits and a supportive work environment, reflects their dedication to attracting and retaining top talent.
Prospectively, the firm sees an uptick in its core practice areas over the coming year. But the firm also sees an opportunity to continue its growth trajectory along with Miami’s, even as more and more BigLaw firms open Miami outposts.
Over 15 years, the firm has seen very little turnover, with most of the attorneys at the firm for more than eight years. Despite being a smaller firm, Amron and Bast say it’s important to attract and retain talent by offering, on one hand, some of what big law firms traditionally offer in their benefits package and, on the other, a completely different working environment.
As Bast Amron looks ahead, Amron and Bast remain committed to growth, both professionally and personally, embodying the firm’s ethos of excellence, integrity, and community impact.
