BAST AMRON was retained as successor counsel to Mimi Talbott (14-20736-EPK) in a hotly contested Bankruptcy and Real Estate conflict with the separate Estate of her late husband Gregory Talbott (13-14656-EPK), a real estate developer in Palm Beach County and his creditors. The dispute primarily centered on the disposition of a valuable shopping center in Boca Raton, and a rapidly expiring option with Fifth Third Bank which provided solely for the Mimi Talbott Estate to acquire the property. The firm rapidly put a successful sale process in place, retained the appropriate broker and was successful in raising $5.0 million, net of the cost of exercising the option from the sale. The firm was able to resolve the myriad legal disputes between the Estates and the creditors that had been ongoing for years, with the effect that the two Estates would be consolidated and the creditors paid from a common source. The firm was also able to liquidate other valuable assets for the consolidated Estates. Through its skill and experience, the firm was able to turn a valuable asset that would otherwise shortly evaporate into millions of dollars of cash so that creditors would have the opportunity to receive a dividend and also to bring years of scorched earth litigation to an end.
