MIAMI, FL –July 11, 2023- Bast Amron partner Jeffrey Bast was featured in a Super Lawyers Magazine article as 2024 Florida Super Lawyers Top 100.
“The only things that keep me out of the water are lightning, men o’war, and travel,” says Bast, a business litigator at Bast Amron in Miami. He swam competitively as a young child, but then, “besides a year of high school water polo … I didn’t swim again for nearly 40 years.” That’s when he discovered open-water swimming. “Of course, the ocean always remained a part of my life- scuba diving, hanging at the beach and paddleboarding, usually with my dog. But now that I’ve found open-water swimming, I cannot imagine a life without it.” Bast swims three days a week, usually before work, with a group of fellow sea-lovers. They usually swim a mile or two, sometimes further. Their adventures bring them into close contact with a variety of sea creatures, including one time, an 8- to 10-foot hammerhead shark that came directly at Bast. He put his hands up to steer it away, and at the last moment, just as Bast touched the shark’s rough skin, it swam off. And Bast swam on.
“I love the physical, the mental, and the social aspects of swimming,” he says. “It also makes me a better lawyer and business leader. Swimming allows me space to clear my mind, to think through a challenging problem, and to find a counterbalance to the stress of our demanding profession.”
